TikTok export guide

TikTok Data Export Not Working? Check the Files and Error

Start with the import error and Export coverage & diagnostics. Check that you selected an original supported TikTok download, keep overlapping categories out of the selection and distinguish an unreadable file from a readable category with no records.

About these guides and corrections · Updated

No supported files or an unsupported JSON layout

Choose one ZIP, one JSON file or the supported extracted TXT files together. A screenshot, PDF, HTML page or a saved download-preview page is not the TikTok export. TXT recognition uses supported category filenames and field labels, including the documented English and Turkish variants.

Named JSON categories and list wrappers are supported, not every possible object that happens to contain video links. If a JSON layout is unsupported, keep the original file and try a fresh TXT download. Do not rename an unrelated file or paste JSON into a TXT document.

Duplicate categories or mixed representations

Select one capture at a time. Do not combine an archive with its extracted copies, mix TXT and JSON versions of the same data or select two overlapping exports. The reader rejects overlapping categories instead of silently doubling the totals.

To compare captures, open the newer one in the main source panel and choose the older one independently in Compare snapshots. Do not combine their files in one import to create a follower-change result.

A size, integrity or encoding error

The ZIP limit is 2 GB and 10,000 entries; each supported file must fit 20 MB, with 60 MB expanded across supported files. The reader also bounds source records and text length. Extract only relevant original TXT files locally when unrelated media makes the ZIP too large; splitting or truncating a supported category can invalidate its totals.

Encrypted, multipart and ZIP64 archives are unsupported. An integrity or invalid UTF-8 error can indicate a damaged or resaved download. Download the original again, keep it intact and avoid editing it in a spreadsheet or word processor before importing.

The import works, but a number looks missing

Not included means the category was not supplied. Included-empty means it was supplied without records. Partial and unsupported need further inspection; they are not confirmed zeros. Check accepted, skipped, unidentified and unknown-date counts, then compare with the original source category.

A failed or cancelled replacement preserves the current export. A filename is not a capture date, a source follow date is not an unfollow date, and a watch timestamp is not a duration. Send an error category through About if needed, without attaching your private archive or its contents.

Sources and responsibility

These instructions describe InstaScope's supported reader and current controls. TikTok determines the categories and history available in your download. Use its official help for the current request process; send corrections through About without attaching private exports.

TikTok's Data Portability documentation is a category reference. InstaScope does not use that API, and its supported download layouts are checked separately with synthetic fixtures.
